Superimposing the digital models and assigning each one a different color allows us to compare the real differences in depth and the changes from state to state. A composite overlay of Back (II) (in yellow) and Back (III) (in orange) confirms how the artist worked, starting with a new plaster cast of the second state: he further straightened the figure’s spine, eliminating details like fingers and the musculature of limbs; emphasized vertical elements in the pose; and widened the overall form.
