10. Pilgrim Baptist Church
3301 S. Indiana Ave.
1890-91 by Adler & Sullivan
Gutted by fire 2006; exterior walls remain
Originally the K.A.M. (Kehilath Anshe Ma'ariv) Isaiah Israel Temple, the building became a Baptist church in 1922 and is considered the birthplace of gospel music. During restorations in 2006, it caught on fire. Though the building was gutted, the stone walls remain and are considered to be structurally sound. The means to rebuild the church are currently being sought.
