Maxim's de Paris was Parisian-themed restaurant and bar located in the basement level of Astor Tower. Conceived and operated with the assistance of Goldberg's wife, Nancy, the Art Nouveau-styled haunt—billed as "Paris in Chicago"—became an instant success with Chicago's art and culture cognoscenti. Astor Tower also contained The French Center, which showcased paintings, tapestries, rare books and stamps of French heritage.
