Venetian Enameled Glass, pl. XIII
Color wood engraving on ivory wove paper; printed by Wertheimer, Lea and Co., London.
This volume illustrates through very fine color wood-engraved and chromo-lithographed plates the collection of glass of Felix Slade (1790–1868), which he bequeathed to the British Museum. Augustus Franks (1826–1897), Curator of British and Medieval Antiquities and Ethnography, was requested by Slade to complete and revise the catalog. It was Franks who added the descriptive appendix, listing additional works of antique art, medieval and renaissance art, oriental works of art, paintings, manuscripts and printed books in ancient bindings, and an extensive collection of prints and etchings also given to the nation by Felix Slade.
