Paper Rodeo was a newsprint comics anthology created in Providence, Rhode Island and featured early work of many artists like C.F., Mat Brinkman, Jo Dery, Matthew Thurber, and Noah Lyons as well as other artists from the Fort Thunder and Paperrad collectives. The newspaper format allowed for free distribution and is reminiscent of old underground newspapers where underground comics were published in the 1960s and 70s. Each issue of Paper Rodeo is chock full of bizarre comic drawings and unconventional stories all resonating with vigorous creative energy. The influence of Paper Rodeo on the current generation of comics artists is far-reaching, and can be seen in many new comics and narrative art publications like the cryptic yet elegant Cold Heat, a collaboration between Paper Rodeo artist Ben Jones and Frank Santoro.
