One of the extreme methods employed by Hitler's army are campaigns to collect clothing and shoes from the general population.
(From newspapers)
Hitler's emissaries appeared
And woke them from their sleep.
They left him only his underwear
They left her only a window curtain.
The poor couple let out not a squeak
And the two dashing young storm troopers
Merrily cried out, "Heil Hitler!"
And ran off with two sacks.
They left. They stole eerything
From silks to linens.
"Who was it: our own troops, or marauders?"
Asked the wife in a whisper.
"Do you want to end up at the Gestapo?"
Answered the husband in a whisper.
"They are both our own and marauders...
As you well know, my friend!"
