Writings
Although Edwards regularly contributed articles on prints and drawings beginning in the 1940s, he rarely published his thoughts about photography. An elegant writer and voracious reader who drew upon a range of literary and cultural references, he most often expressed his opinions through exhibition texts and the many letters he exchanged with artists, collectors, and other professionals in the field. Below is a sampling of writings by Edwards during his time as curator of photography, texts about Edwards, and selected letters to and from the curator; the texts in the first two sections are organized chronologically, and the correspondence is listed alphabetically according to the recipient’s last name.
