    Express your own flight of fancy by making and decorating your own kite. Join artist Julio Flores for a unique demonstration of his artful kites and experience the Windy City in an exciting kite flying-session in Grant Park. Kaleidoscope is a museum-wide annual event for families that includes artmaking, a gallery hunt, performances, and tours.

    (+)Workshop: A Study in Design and Function: Toys, Kites, and the History of Flight
    December 6, 9:30–3:30
    Fee: $40; 5 CPDUs
    This workshop for science or art teachers explores the impact of play and toys, such as kites, on aeronautic innovation and the birth of flight. The day features a presentation by Tom Crouch, noted author and senior curator from the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C., a demonstration of the aerodynamics of kite flying, viewing of the exhibition, and hands-on activities about the aesthetics of kite design.     (+)Flying Legends: Movie Myths and Reality
    Three programs celebrate flight in the movies. On August 14, two Russian test pilots discuss clips of films, including "Top Gun," at "Flying Legends: Night of the Aces." On August 16 and 21, watch John Wayne and Janet Leigh in the 1957 Cold War comedy thriller "Jet Pilot." On August 27 and 30, view Russian director Larisa Shepitko's controversial 1966 portrait of the life of a woman pilot in "Wings."
