Though Frank Lloyd Wright may have exemplified the spirit of Wendingen through his embodiment of its founding ideals, he was far from the only inspiration for the Amsterdam School. Many other architects were honored with their own special issues of Wendingen, but they also dedicated issues to artists such as Gustav Klimt and Diego Rivera. Additionally, Wendingen explored the art and architecture of many countries, including Hungary, Austria, Sweden, and Indonesia, as well as investigating subjects and themes such as marionettes, theater, ex libris stamps of Dutch artists, sculpture, ceramics, and natural phenomena like crystals and shells.

The range and depth of Wendingen reflects the wide variety of subjects and styles that adherents to the Amsterdam School explored and tried to incorporate into their architecture and design. The differing styles of Klimt and Rivera may seem at odds, with Klimt’s symbolism and Asian influence contrasting with Rivera’s murals and socialist motivations, but in the context of these Dutch architects they come together.
