Petr Aleksandrovich Aliakrinskii entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture (MUZhViZ) in 1900 to study with Sergei Ivanov, a celebrated history painter and member of the Realist group the Wanderers. During the Civil War period, he served as head of the art department of the Iaroslavl branch of the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA). He moved to Moscow in 1922 to collaborate with a host of emerging Communist periodicals, including thirty dnei and Bezbozhnik. He was commissioned by the State Publishing House for Literature (Goslitizdat) and the State Publishing House for Children’s Literature (Detgiz) to illustrate several books. He designed textiles after 1925, wallpaper patterns after 1927, and prepared posters for several different publishing houses during World War II, contributing approximately eight compositions to the TASS studio between December 1941 and the spring of 1944. In 1945 he was awarded the title Honored Worker of Arts of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.
