Vladimir Ivanovich Liushin entered the artistic-industrial workshop of the Stroganov School for Technical Drawing in Moscow in 1913. After it was transformed into GSKhM, he joined the workshop of painter and set designer Aristarkh Lentulov. He later entered VKhUTEMAS to study under David Shterenberg. After graduating in 1925, he submitted his work to the First Discussion Exhibition of the Society of Easel Painters and continued to participate in group exhibitions until 1930. He began publishing his cartoons in the 1920s in such satirical magazines as Bezbozhnik u stanka and Smena and such newspapers as Komsomol’skaia pravda. In the mid-1930s, he taught painting at the Moscow Art Institute. He designed approximately thirty-one posters for the TASS studio between December 1941 and December 1946.
