Included among these snapshots is a group of erotic images that were presumably sold individually or in sets, often depicting women in domestic or outdoor settings. While many of these images from the 1940s and 1950s were likely commercially conceived, their evocation of the format and settings common in personal snapshots undoubtedly heightened their allure. These risqué photographs may also have been taken by members of camera clubs using hired models; in several images, the women appear to be looking at more than one photographer. Such images, which remain just as anonymous as personal snapshots, importantly blur the boundary between images produced for mass consumption and those made among intimates.
