Chagall and his wife, Vava, attended the dedication of The Four Seasons on September 27, 1974, where the work was received with great enthusiasm and popular interest. The project was marked by an exceptional outpouring of generosity as well: Chagall donated the design to the people of Chicago, while the materials and labor were funded by the Wood-Princes through the Prince Foundation in memory of Frederick Henry Prince, and presented to Art-in-the-Center, Incorporated, a donation-funded entity that oversaw the acquisition and maintenance of public art in Chicago. Decades after its inauguration, the shimmering Four Seasons mosaic remains a popular attraction for visitors and citizens alike, and a quiet respite in the middle of Chicago's busy downtown.
