Upper-right corner of Back (III)

On the right, a thin vertical line runs from the ground to the top edge of Back (III); this incised line, which does not appear in Back (II), works to reinforce the verticality of the new forms in Back (III). Through laser-scanning technology, we can examine the surface of the mark in close detail and confirm that the artist used a chisel to cut into the plaster. The parallel marks of his tool run down the inside of the line.
