Casting irregularities repeated from Back (I) to Back (II)

Small casting irregularities, noted on the grayscale images of Back (I), are repeated on Back (II), demonstrating that Matisse relied on a cast of Back (I) to begin his new work. Comparison of the digital models also clearly shows other changes, including the artist’s addition of a bulbous mass of plaster to the figure’s right hand.
