One of the most important graphic designers of his generation, Ladislav Sutnar had a great influence on Czech avant-garde book design. Sutnar was hired by the co-operative publishing house Družstevní práce and soon developed a distinctive style for the publisher. Moving away from the more traditional designs Družstevní práce were using, Sutnar created covers that were mostly composed of photographs, texts, and simple shapes. An early developer of information design, Sutnar also created a distinctive layout design for Družstevní práce and was involved in many aspects what the publisher produced. The examples here represent a range of Sutnar's cover designs from 1930-1938.
